Introduction
The course will cover some of the most dominant theories in the field of medical sociology. Theories covered in the course include, but not limited to fundamental cause theory, gender theory, cumulative disadvantages theory, stress process theory, labeling theory, social capital theory. Course materials will deal with theoretical views about social patterns, processes, and outcomes, as well as the relevance of social contexts for contributing to health outcomes. The course will also examine how these theories are used and applied in research on medical sociology. Thus, this course may equip students with theoretical tools to understand the dynamics of health and society, and at the same time, enhance the ability of students to conduct their own research on medical sociology.
The course is part of:
- Graduate Certificate in Health and Ageing
- FlexiMasters in Health and Ageing
- Graduate Certificate in Social Sciences
- FlexiMasters in Social Sciences
