Introduction
Counselling older people require specific knowledge and skills. This course will introduce students to the basic counselling skills, approaches and interventions pertinent to working with older people. The course provides opportunities for students to develop key competencies and be equipped with tools to effectively assess, intervene and employ basic counselling techniques when they work with older people.

Dr Lee Boon Ooi
Senior Lecturer, National Institute of Education - Psychology and Child & Human Development
Besides teaching and research, he is a practising psychologist for more than 20 years, specialising in depression, psychosis, dissociation, and psychosocial oncology. Similar to his research, he adopts an integrated approach to counselling. He maintains an active private practice and provides consultation at the Department of Psychosocial Oncology at the Singapore National Cancer Centre. He is a Recognized Clinical Supervisor certified by The Singapore Association for Counselling.
Research Interests
Culture and mental health: Multicultural therapy, multicultural school counselling, Indigenous healing systems, cultural psychopathology, , health beliefs, somatization, embodiment, narratives and phenomenology, mental health and alteration of consciousness (e.g., dissociation, trance)
Dr Isabelle Ong Gaffney Pei Ling

Dr Isabelle Ong Gaffney Pei Ling is a Mental Health Counsellor at SACAC Counselling doing counselling for Children, Adolescents, Adults, Couples, and Parents. Her specialisation is in Psychological & Personality Assessments.
