Introduction

This module examines the present state and developing trends in the Singaporean publishing industry. Emphasis will be placed on book publishing in various languages and the specific business dynamics for each, in addition to Singaporean policy governing the book trade. Attention will also be given to the greater realities of publishing in SE Asia and to the post-colonial context of Singapore as a hub of Anglophone literature in Asia.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate an awareness of the present conditions of publishing in Singapore
- Develop the ability to apply humanities research and research methods to publishing
- Develop an appreciation of the particularity, diversity and range of publishing opportunities in SE Asia and the world from both a theoretical and practical perspective

As with all Humanities courses, this course prepares students for a wide range of employment opportunities in Busincess, Education, Civil Service, and the arts, as it provides specific job scope considerations to supplement the writing, reading, and critical thinking skills that serve Humanities so well in taking on jobs in these sectors. This particular course provides special insight into jobs in Journalism and Media.
