Course Overview

The Minor in Entrepreneurship (MiE) programme  is designed to equip students with fundamental entrepreneurship competency, business acumen and stamina to build and grow businesses. Students will be enriched with an open mindset to bring innovative ideas into actualization and be inspired to become venturesome and more resilient in this ever changing world.

Course Details

The Minor in Entrepreneurship constitutes a total of 15 Academic Units (AU), and takes about one academic year to complete. Students must pass all five modules in order to obtain the Minor in Entrepreneurship.

     

Course Highlights

This module aims to provide a fundamental understanding of the entrepreneurial process, how entrepreneurs start and implement their business ideas and to instill in students an entrepreneurial mindset.

This module focuses on the startup formation process, in particular, securing proper venture financing to ringfence intellectual property intangibles, undertake product developments, talent acquisitions, market expansion and ultimately leading to a viable exit strategy for all stakeholders. This module will clarify key financial concepts, accounting principles and market practices that will better equip aspiring entrepreneurs to secure funding for their new ventures.

This module aims to relate theoretical concepts of strategy and organization design with practical and execution issues in a growing enterprise context and studies the key elements that propel scaling up as well as impede growth.

This module aims to create a holistic understanding towards the management of a company, from start-up phase to growth & expansion and to deepen analytical skills in achieving the company’s objectives and strategies.

There are two parts to this module.

PART A: This module allows students to experience the critical role of opportunity creation & recognition, and to practice the method of evaluating new venture concepts.


PART B: This module will facilitate students to explore potential business ideas in forums where like-minded people meet. In addition, students will get to experience the importance of networking & professionalism.

You are eligible to apply for the programme if you are:
  • An NTU undergraduate, regardless of discipline of study
  • Responsible and committed to see through the completion of the programme
You are not eligible to apply for the programme if you:
  • Will graduate before the programme completion
  • Class exercises
  • Case-study analysis
  • Team projects
  • Presentations
  • Reports
  • Written examination (For ET9132 only)

1. How many AU can I clear for MiE Programme?
The Minor in Entrepreneurship constitutes a total of 15 Academic Units (AU), and takes about one academic year to complete. Students must pass all five modules in order to obtain the Minor in Entrepreneurship. 

2. Do I need to pay school fees for taking the MiE Programme during Special Terms?
No additional school fees will be charged for taking up the MiE programme.

3. Can I apply for MiE if I will be on Industrial Attachment or equivalent for the final module ET9135?
Yes. For ET9135 Business Venture Implementation, it will be conducted over a span of six months. There is a total of seven physical lessons and consultation sessions for the ET9135 module, to be conducted on two weekday evenings and five Saturdays.

4. Can I exercise S/U option on the MiE modules?
The S/U option does not apply to courses that count towards the requirements for the minor programme.
