Dr Sun He co-publishes two journal articles, participates in AILA 2023 and speaks at two events
Dr Sun He, Senior Education Research Scientist, and Dr Beth O’Brien, Deputy Centre Director at the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) co-wrote a journal article titled “The Children’s Picture Books Lexicon (CPB-LEX): A Large-scale Lexical Database from Children’s Picture Books” in the Behavior Research Methods journal, alongside Dr Clarence Green and Dr Kathleen Keogh. The article explores a large-scale database of lexical statistics derived from children’s picture books, CPB-LEX, allowing researchers and practitioners to extract lexical statistics for high-frequency words which can be used to develop word lists.
Dr Sun He also co-wrote a journal article titled “Shared Book Reading and Children’s Social-Emotional Learning in Asian Schools” in the Positive Psychology and Positive Education in Asia book, alongside Miss Siew Chin Ng and Miss Aris Peh. The article explores a systematic review that provides insights on the effectiveness of shared book reading (SBR) in promoting children’s social and emotional learning (SEL) in Asian countries. Findings have shown the usefulness of SBR in promoting children’s social-emotional understanding, racial acceptance, and prosocial skills in Asia.
Dr Sun He presented a paper titled “Motif Detection and Teacher-child Interaction in Bilingual Children’s Mandarin Learning” at the AILA 20th World Congress in Lyon City held from 17th till 21st of July 2023.
On 29 September 2023, Dr Sun He was invited to speak at the annual Good Start Early Childhood Conference, where she presented “课堂绘本阅读: 读什么怎么读 (Shared Book Reading in Class: What to Read and How to Read)” in Mandarin and was also invited to speak at the Languages of Singapore: To Transmit of Not to Transmit the Home Languages – That is the Question! webinar on 31 August 2023, organised by the National Library Board (NLB), Singapore.
