Current Research Interests
Prof Jodhbir Mehta conducts laboratory, translational and clinical research related to selective tissue transplantation particularly pertaining to the cornea. His laboratory-based research projects involve investigating the potential of stem cells for human corneal endothelial cell proliferation and studies on patients with corneal genetic disorders. His corneal interests lie in corneal transplantation – penetrating keratoplasty, lamellar keratoplasty and endothelial keratoplasty, femtosecond laser technology, corneal imaging, corneal infections, corneal refractive surgery, keratoprosthesis surgery, ocular drug delivery systems and corneal genetics.

The majority of his laboratory-based work is in translational research and focuses on the use of femtosecond lasers, ocular surface reconstruction, development of artificial cornea, corneal wound healing, protein aggregation diseases and corneal drug delivery systems. His clinical based research involves research into imaging devices for the cornea, case comparative cohorts of new selective tissue transplantation procedures compared to penetrating keratoplasty, examining complications and outcomes of these new procedures.
