I am currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Information Studies in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at the Nanyang Technological University. I received a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I also received a M.Sc. in Information Systems and B.Sc. in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore. Prior to my academic career, I have worked in the IT industry for several years in both the public and private sectors in Singapore.

My overall research focuses on the use and impacts of information communication technologies and social media on individuals, organizations and society. My earlier research studies the use and impacts of technologies in organizations to facilitate communication and collaboration in distributed work environments. My recent research concentrates on the use and impacts of new media such as social media and mobile communication media.  Some of my recent projects examine the motivations of using such new media to facilitate content sharing and to meet human information needs. I am also currently involved in research examining the effects of individual differences on the use of social and gaming technologies for play and for work.  I have research papers published or forthcoming in leading academic journals including Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, New Media and Society, Journal of Information Science, Computers in Human Behavior, Computers and Education, IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, etc.
