Updated: September 2021

The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) International PhD/Postdoctoral Scholarship (HIPS) 2022 is now open for application. HIPS aims to encourage outstanding Singapore citizens to pursue an academic career in HASS by supporting their doctoral studies or postdoctoral fellowship abroad.

Under HIPS, successful candidates will be employed as University staff, and be granted paid leave to pursue a sponsored PhD/postdoctoral programme in an approved overseas university.  Upon successful completion of the programme, they will be appointed as tenure-track faculty of the University.

HASS Schools include the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM), School of Humanities (SoH), School of Social Sciences (SSS), and Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI).

Candidates with research interests in Art History, Communication Studies, Economics, and Linguistics and Multilingual Studies will be given priority consideration. Candidates in other humanities and social science disciplines, with good academic credentials, strong research proposals, and have demonstrated scholarly potential, will continue to be reviewed favourably.

Full information on the programme – including the application form, eligibility, programme structure, mentorship, service agreement, application process, and checklist – can be downloaded at the end of this page.

Applicants who are interested should have already explored further studies options and actually applied to top postgraduate schools by the time they are shortlisted for the first round of interviews around February 2022. Applicants are not required to have received admission offers when they submit their HIPS applications, but their choice of universities and actual applications will contribute to the evaluation process. When applicants start to receive admission offers from various universities around February / March 2022, they can then update the HIPS Office progressively.

The application deadline is on 31 December 2021.  The Evaluation Committee will only start reviewing applications after the closing date.

Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to consult faculty members / faculty advisors on their research proposals and application dossiers. Do submit all applications via NTU Workday at Apply Here

All late and / or incomplete applications will not be considered. A check list is included in the application package.
If applicants have further queries, please feel free to contact Seeto Wei Peng (email: wpseeto@ntu.edu.sg ).
