NTU Singapore celebrated the achievements and contributions across its community at the Nanyang Awards 2026, held on 28 October 2026. The annual awards recognise individuals and teams whose dedication and excellence have made a meaningful impact in education, research, innovation and service.

Among this year's recipients were two faculty members from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Professor Joseph Sylvester Chang and Professor Cheng Tee Hiang, who were recognised for their contributions to innovation, entrepreneurship and education.

Nanyang Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Professor Joseph Sylvester Chang received the Nanyang Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which recognises outstanding contributions to fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem at NTU, nurturing future entrepreneurial leaders and translating innovation into new business ventures that contribute to Singapore's economic and national development.

Reflecting on the recognition, Prof Chang shared:

“I am humbled by this award, which celebrates a shared journey with my students, colleagues and partners in translating research into technologies that benefit society. It inspires me to continue pushing boundaries and nurturing the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.”

Nanyang Education Award – School

Professor Cheng Tee Hiang was conferred the Nanyang Education Award (School), which recognises faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and enrich students' learning experiences through their dedication, enthusiasm, care and strong classroom rapport.

For Prof Cheng, teaching is as much about learning from students as it is about guiding them. Reflecting on his teaching journey, he shared:

“Teaching is a journey of learning together. There is much for me to learn from my students, just as I hope they learn from me. I am grateful for this recognition, but even more grateful for the many students who have enriched my teaching journey and inspired me to keep learning and improving.”

These achievements reflect NTU EEE's continued commitment to advancing innovation that benefits society and fostering meaningful learning experiences for future generations.

Heartiest congratulations to both professors on their well-deserved recognition!
