A High-tech Simulator to Manage Crowded Skies
The new simulator helps airports optimise its flight capacity. Effective air traffic and airport management is more crucial than ever to manage increasingly crowded skies.
WITH air traffic projected to soar in the years to come, there is greater pressure on air navigation service providers to handle more aircraft – and little room for error. Thanks to the Air Traffic Control Tower Simulator developed by NTU’s Air Traffic Management Research Institute, there is a chance to prepare for the time. Designed to optimise an airport’s flight capacity, the two-storey tower gives a 360-degree panoramic view of any airport it simulates. The tower is also believed to the largest in the world used for research purposes.
- Optimises flight capacity at an airport or in airspace while minimising travel delay
- Assesses efficiency in reducing traffic congestion at the airport
- Improves aviation safety
"There will be pressure on air navigation service providers to handle more aircraft, and less room for error,"
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew
There are currently 10 research projects in the pipeline which will use the simulation tower.
