NBS Equal Opportunity Fund
26 April 2019
Wednesday, 24 April, was the launch of the new NBS Equal Opportunity Fund, which provides students from underprivileged backgrounds with a valuable platform for overseas opportunities.
This initiative from NBS Alumni Advisory Board was made possible by NBS alumni Mr Danny Yong, CIO & Founding Partner, Dymon Asia Capital, Ms Carolyn Choo, Managing Director, Worldwide Hotels Pte Ltd and Mr Henry Tan, Group CEO & Chief Innovation Officer, Nexia TS.
Proven to have positive effects on personal and career development of students, overseas exchange and internship programmes have been an integral part of the NBS journey.
Such programmes offer students real-world exposure to a wide array of industries and give them the edge to succeed in the new globalised economy.
They also build self-confidence, independence and soft skills such as adaptability and cultural intelligence, and significantly boost a student's level of employability.
However, one in five students is unable to take advantage of this life-changing opportunity.
With the NBS Equal Opportunity Fund, more NBS students would be able to gain the support they need to participate in overseas exchanges or internships and in international case competitions and community projects.
"I am honoured to have this opportunity to seed fund the NBS Equal Opportunity Fund. I hope that the NBS students who have the need can avail of equal opportunities for a more holistic education experience as they explore overseas internships and international community projects," shared Ms Carolyn Choo.
"It is always more blessed to give than to receive. Helping someone to learn to fish is more sustainable than giving them fish," said Mr Henry Tan, who is also Chairman of NBS Alumni Advisory Board.
Mr Danny Yong said, "I give to the NBS Equal Opportunity Fund because it is the right thing to do."
