Inaugural NTU President's Charity Golf Cup

On Wednesday, 3 July 2019, NTU held the inaugural NTU President’s Charity Golf Cup (PCGC) at The Singapore Island Country Club to raise funds for a worthy cause.

Formerly known as the Business and Community Partners (BCP) Golf Challenge, PCGC brought together all of the University's different business and community partners and acknowledged their invaluable charitable support through an exciting day on the green.

About Business & Community Partners Programme

Since 2011, the NTU Business and Community Partners (BCP) Programme has raised more than S$8 million, with an average of S$1 million each year, that touches the lives of many students who are in financial difficulties.

Each year, 1 in 5 NTU students require financial assistance to support them in pursuing a tertiary education. Through our business and community partners, NTU raised over $1,000,000 in 2018. About $560,000 went to NTU bursaries while the remaining was directed to the Lee Sing Kong Endowment Fund, which supports the Lee Sing Kong Professorship in Early Childhood Education at National Institute of Education (NIE) and the Lee Sing Kong Bursary Award to help needy students pursue a quality education at NTU. With these contributions, NTU can help more students overcome their financial challenges and focus on their studies.

With Singapore leading the charge of becoming a philanthropic hub in Asia, the BCP Programme is aligned to the Singapore Government's call to step up engagement efforts to get more companies involved in giving back to the community. This emphasises that businesses in our future economy must not only focus on productivity and innovation, but also incorporate civic-mindedness and play active roles in our communities.

Since its inception, over 550 companies have been supporting the BCP programme. The programme brings together philanthropic business partners for an exciting opportunity to do charity work towards a worthy cause.

The NTU Business and Community Partners (BCP) Golf Challenge

The fundraising event was mooted by Chairman of the BCP Committee Mr Simon Lee, an NTU alumnus and CEO of Thatz International Pte Ltd, and made possible with the support of the NTU Development Office and BCP Committee.

In 2016, the first NTU BCP Golf Challenge was held at the Tanah Merah Country Club, Tampines Course. NTU raised close to S$360,000, surpassing its fundraising target of S$100,000. All funds raised at the event benefits bright and talented students who would otherwise lack the financial means to pursue a quality education with NTU. The financial support will enable these students to take on less part-time work so they can better focus on their studies. Thanks to the unstinting support from NTU’s business and community partners, many NTU students have benefited tremendously from their help.
