Co-organised by the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) and NTU CEE Alumni Association (NCEEA), the Professor Chen Charng Ning Distinguished Lecture (PCCNDL) is established in recognition of Professor Chen's outstanding contributions to the Singapore higher education, engineering professions, and industries. Professor Chen was the founding Dean of the School of Civil & Structural Engineering (now known as the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering) and the former Deputy President of NTU. In addition, he served as chairman of BCA from 1999 to 2001 and Santarli Construction from 2001 to 2019. Professor Chen passed away on 30 November 2019.

Donations and funds collected for this event will go to the Professor Chen Charng Ning Scholarship Fund and the Professor Chen Charng Ning Bursary Fund. The NTU Class of 1985 has set up an endowment fund with a target of S$2 million to support engineering students from underprivileged families in honour of Professor Chen.
