About the Seminar

How much do you know about the maritime industry and its impact on our daily lives? Who are the key players shaping this global sector, and what exactly is a classification society?

In this seminar, Mr CAI Yanxian, Senior Vice President of the China Classification Society (CCS), will provide valuable insights into the pivotal role of the maritime industry and its stakeholders in global trade and the world economy. He will discuss current trends, challenges, and future directions in international shipping, as well as CCS’s pioneering work in supporting the industry and advancing maritime technologies, particularly in the areas of decarbonization and digitalisation. Drawing on real-world examples such as green fuels, battery-powered vessels, and autonomous ships, the seminar provides a unique opportunity to learn about one of the world’s most vital industries and the technological innovations that are shaping its sustainable future.

About the Speaker

Mr Cai, senior engineer, received his bachelor’s degree in the School of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 1991. From 1991 to 1994, Mr Cai worked for China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) Yantai Branch. Mr. Cai joined China Classification Society in 1994 and has been working for CCS in many sectors and accumulated a wide range of experience, starting from Surveyor to Senior Surveyor and from Manager to General Manager in Headquarters and Branch Offices at home and abroad, successively served as General Manager of Barcelona Office and Athens Office, General Manager of Business Management Department and Classed Ship in Service Department of CCS Headquarters.

In 2016, he served as Deputy General Manager of CCS Zhejiang Branch. In 2020, he served as General Manager of CCS Zhejiang Branch. In 2021, he became Vice President of CCS. In 2023, he became Senior Vice President of CCS.
