Construction of Hive & Wee Cho Yaw Plaza - Inside Stories of the Two NTU Icons
About the Seminar
Hive and Wee Cho Yaw Plaza are two top icons of NTU with distinct architectural features. You may be wondering how the two buildings were constructed. Both landmarks were built by Newcon Builders Pte Ltd, a home-grown Grade A1 construction company owned by an NTU alumnus. In this seminar, you will be given the opportunity to witness how the two projects have transformed Singapore’s built environment through cutting-edge engineering, sustainable practices, and iconic architectural design.
The Wee Cho Yaw Plaza is a trailblazer in Mass Engineering Timber (MET) construction. It sets new benchmarks in productivity, innovation and sustainability. The project also had its share of challenges and difficulties, which were overcome by some innovative technologies developed by Newcon. The Hive is a design masterpiece with its unique façade methodology and customised finishes, which create an inspiring, world-class learning hub. In both projects, some cutting-edge energy-saving or sustainable solutions were adopted, which will also be presented in this seminar.
