- Dr Lee Hui Mien (EEE/2003), Senior Director, Group Environment Sustainability, Singtel
Hui Mien is the Senior Director for Group Environmental Sustainability with the Singtel Group. She is responsible for the environmental sustainability strategy and leads the environmental initiatives for Singtel including working with various business units to integrate sustainability into their everyday work including leading the net-zero work within Singtel Group. Hui Mien was from the pioneer batch of A*STAR Graduate Scholarship and graduated from NTU with a PhD from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). She started her career as a research scientist in sustainable product development with A*STAR SIMTech in 2007, after which she spent two years working as a post-doctoral fellow at Rochester Institute of Technology and Linkoping University. Subsequently, she moved from research to retail where she headed sustainability for IKEA SEA before joining the development and conservation sector in her previous role as vice president for sustainable solutions with the Mandai Wildlife Group. During her time at Mandai Wildlife Group, she was selected as one of nine sustainability executives in the Eco-Business A-List 2019 – a list that recognises influential corporate sustainability officers in Asia Pacific who genuinely try to turn their companies into better corporate citizens. As a trained circular economy professional, her interest has always been in product life cycle management and supply chain sustainability issues. - Jonah Joshua Simon, Senior Industry Transformation Advisor, Jobs Development Partner Programme, Singapore Business Federation
As Senior Industry Transformation Advisor at the Singapore Business Federation (SBF), JJ Simon assists companies in the waste industry to undertake transformation, under SBF’s Jobs Development Partnership Programme. Before joining SBF, he was appointed Acting Executive Director of the Waste Management & Recycling Association of Singapore (WMRAS) and Head of WMRAS’ Academy from June 2021 to May 2022.
JJ, as he is widely known in the industry, served close to five decades in Singapore’s Ministry of the Environment and the National Environmental Agency in various roles and departments. He was part of the team responsible for the privatisation of the refuse collection services and rolled out and managed three rounds of the public waste collection tenders, from 1999 to 2021.
He has received many accolades, including Singapore’s Long Service Award, PBS (2001); the Efficiency Medal, PB (2002); and the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) Gold Award in 2021. He has also served in various working committees and is the first Vice-President of the Society of Environmental Health, Singapore. - Tan Bee Lay, Partner & Head of Sustainability, Global Green Connect
Bee Lay has more than 25 years of experience in management consulting and has worked with both public and private sectors on value management. This includes decarbonisation roadmaps, sustainability policies and carbon accounting.
She is also active in the sustainability and management consulting circles and is a certified member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) and Senior Practising Management Consultant (SPMC).
An environmental chemist by training, Bee Lay received her Bachelor of Science from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Master of Science from the University of Brighton, United Kingdom.
