Accessible Education

About Us
Here at the Accessible Education Unit (AEU), we promote a culture of inclusiveness that includes students with disabilities and special needs in all our programmes and activities. We believe that students with disabilities and special needs should be empowered with the appropriate levels of support for them to achieve and realise their fullest potential. With our extensive background in working with people with disabilities, we are able to relate to, and advocate on behalf of students for equal access and opportunities.

Our Approach
AEU believes in working with relevant stakeholders in decision making processes as consensus are essential to ensure solutions are comprehensive and feasible. To do this however, we request that students share their personal information with the relevant stakeholders, such as faculty members, pastoral care staff, and medical practitioners, who are involved in decision making. Please be assured that all personal information shared, will be managed with utmost confidentiality and care.

Who We Serve
We provide a range of professional guidance and advice services to students with disabilities and special needs. In addition, we also work with members of the NTU community in providing consultation and advice on accessibility matters, which may include accommodations to facilities and curriculum for students with disabilities and special needs.

Disabilities and special needs may include the following conditions:

  • Physical and Sensory Difficulties (e.g. mobility problems, hearing loss and vision loss)
  • Social and Behavioural Difficulties (e.g. autism spectrum disorder, ADHD)
  • Learning and Language Difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia)

Medical documentation and/or specialist assessment reports are required for verification of disabilities or special needs.

Students with disabilities and special needs can approach us for assistance to access services and support such as:

  • Academic and Non-Academic Counselling
  • Transition Support
  • Advice on Assistive Technology Devices
  • Access to Facilities
  • Tests and Examination Support
  • Industrial Attachment & Internship
  • Career Counselling
  • Special arrangement for Halls of Residence

Students may be required to undergo assessments to ascertain appropriate support services. These assessments may be conducted internally at NTU or externally by third-party service providers. In such cases, students may need to bear the costs for such assessments.
