MCCY/NYC have embarked on the SG Youth Action Plan since May this year to provide a platform for youths to share their ideas and vision of Singapore in 2025, and to come up with an action plan on how youths can partner the Government to realise this vision. This action plan will include policy ideas/ recommendations, and a series of ground-up partnership projects, that youths are proposing to achieve their desired vision. Please see www.mccy.gov.sg/sparkthenext and the instagram handle @sparkthenextsg for more details. One of the themes that our youths care very much about is Environment (recycling, reducing waste) / Social Issues (support for disadvantaged groups e.g. special needs, youth at risk, mental wellness) / Jobs & Economy (managing tech disruption, skills upgrading, lifelong learning, supporting low-wage workers).
Youth Action Challenge
The YAC is part of the SG Youth Action Plan and is designed to support youths to influence policy change and start ground-up initiatives. Through the Challenge, youths will build their ideas through:
· Context Setting: Understand local issues and brainstorm ideas with mentors
· Ideation: Hear from industry leaders and develop ideas
· Prototyping: Pitch ideas and get feedback
The best ideas will be pitched to key government leaders at the end of the Challenge.
What's In It For Youths?
Youths will be mentored and receive policy training or coaching on project development. You also stand the chance to pitch your idea to key government leaders, and receive up to $50,000 in grants to turn them into reality.
