Preparing for URECA
While research preparation may not be necessary, some professors may prefer students with some research background or who have taken courses relevant to the projects they are offering.
Consider your Commitment
- Can you commit yourself to 10 hours of URECA research per week?
- Can you afford the time away from your coursework?
Not sure if URECA is for you?
Speak with others who are already involved in some kind of research work:
Your favorite professor
Peers who are already working on URECA projects
Research staff or teaching assistants
Find your Project
After you have received an invitation from URECA in August, you may view the list of available projects from the List of Research Projects.
(Access to URECA system in the StudentLink is only available after a professor has registered you to a URECA project.)
Speak with Professor
After you have found a project of your interest, do not hesitate to make an appointment with the professor who is offering the project to express your interest to work on his/her project. Be prepared to talk about yourself and your interests, and highlight your commitments, if any (e.g. GEM Discoverer/GEM Explorer/IA).
Register for a project
After a professor has agreed to supervise you, he/she will register you for his/her project in the system. You will need to acknowledge the registration in the URECA system from your StudentLink.
You may start to work on your URECA project after you have successfully registered.
Can't Find a Suitable Project?
If none of the projects in the list of URECA projects look attractive to you or if you have different ideas, you can propose your own research project on any topic you like. However, you will need to find a professor from any school in NTU to agree to supervise you.
Propose a research project will be linked to the system which is currently being develop by CITS.
After you have received an invitation from URECA in August, you may
(i) view the list of available projects from the List of Research Projects .
(ii) propose your own research project in any discipline and search for a supervising professors in any school.
When you find a professor who is willing to supervise your pet project, he/she will be able to create your project in the online system, and at the same time, register you for the project.
Note: For ATREC-URECA, DSO-URECA, IME-U RECA, MNC-URECA and SIMTech-URECA, all proposed projects are subject to partner organisation's approval..
Interested in a Particular Project But It Has Already Been Assigned to Another Student?
Each URECA project can only be registered to one URECA eligible student. If you like a particular project in the list of projects but it has been assigned to another student, you can discuss with the professor who is offering that project. If the professor agrees to supervise you, he/she will create an appropriate project title.
The maximum number of URECA students a professor may supervise is 4 (excluding FYP-URECA students).
Alternatively, you can even discuss with another professor and convince him/her of the same.
Change of Research Project
If you would like to change to another research project for any reason, please consult your supervising professor without any delay within the Add/Drop period.
If you would like to exit from URECA for any reason, please consult your supervising professor without any delay within the Add/Drop period.

(Project registration system closes on 1 October 2017.)
