FYP-URECA

Introduction

FYP-URECA is a Final Year project (FYP) that is conducted as a continuation of an earlier URECA project carried out by a student during his/her 2nd and/or 3rd year of study. It aims to maintain the continuity of students' research experience as far as possible. Under this programme, students will continue with their URECA supervising professors as one of their FYP-URECA supervisors.

Objectives

The objective of FYP-URECA is to encourage and nurture URECA students to become researchers by equipping students with the essential research experience and skills. FYP-URECA could also serve as a foundation for their postgraduate studies.

FYP-URECA Eligibility

Student is required to complete at least one academic year of URECA programme to be eligible for FYP-URECA. Eligible students will be invited to apply for FYP-URECA in February/March.

Benefits

FYP-URECA student will be eligible for the following:

  • Participate in the annual URECA Poster Exhibition and Competition event;
  • Claim up to $800 of project consumables in addition to the school FYP consumables fund given;
  • Participate in the International Conference of Undergraduate Research – URECA (ICUR-URECA);
  • Apply for URECA conference support fund up to $2500 if his/her paper is accepted for presentation in a reputable conference;
  • Apply for URECA journal publication award when he/she is the first author of the published paper in a reputed journal;
  • Upon successful completion of the FYP-URECA programme, student will receive a certificate.

Duration of FYP-URECA

FYP-URECA follows the FYP duration of individual students' schools (e.g. one semester only, two semesters, etc.).
Please note that FYP-URECA project registration in FYP-URECA system open only in February/March.

URECA students, who are interested to continue their URECA projects into FYP and are starting their FYP in the following academic year (either semester 1 or semester 2), should register their FYP-URECA projects within this period.

Academic Credit for FYP-URECA

The Academic Units (AUs) are awarded by individual students’ schools. Hence, there is no additional AUs or stipend from URECA for FYP-URECA projects.

Registration

Individual FYP-URECA proposal should be submitted for each FYP student.

The process of FYP-URECA project registration:

  1. Student approaches his/her former or current URECA supervising professor to express interest to do FYP-URECA under the professor's supervision.
  2. URECA supervising professor uploads the FYP-URECA project proposal in the URECA system through StaffLink.
  3. Co-supervising professor reviews and acknowledges the proposal through StaffLink, if the FYP-URECA project has a co-supervising professor.
  4. Student accepts the FYP-URECA project proposal through StudentLink.
  5. FYP school coordinator acknowledges the FYP-URECA project proposal in the URECA system through StaffLink.

FYP-URECA registration system and school FYP registration system do not link, thus student is required to register his/her FYP-URECA project as FYP project with his/her school within the school FYP registration period.

Only student's former URECA supervising professor is able to upload the FYP-URECA project for the student he/she has previously or current is supervising.
(Exception will only be given to student to continue his/her URECA research project into FYP-URECA under the supervision of another professor if his/her former URECA supervising professor is no longer/ will not be in NTU during his/her FYP-URECA duration.)

If the URECA supervisor is not from student's school, student is required to have a co-supervisor from his/her school to satisfy the school's requirement.

1.   The student school's supervising professor is responsible for FYP marks submission and other project requirements set by the school.

2.   The student URECA supervising professor is responsible for FYP-URECA project proposal submission, registration and approval of FYP-URECA deliverables (FYP-URECA deliverables are in addition to individual school's FYP requirements) and consumables claims.

Group FYP

FYP-URECA eligible student may choose to do his/her FYP-URECA project in group subjects to approval from his/her school.

The ownership of the FYP-URECA project (e.g. submission of the FYP-URECA poster, Final Research Paper and claims through the URECA system) is the FYP-URECA student if his/her FYP group mate(s) is not former URECA student(s). Therefore his/her group mate(s) can only be listed as collaborator(s) in his/her FYP-URECA poster and paper submission and will not be eligible for the following:

  • Participate in the annual URECA Poster Exhibition and Competition event;
  • Participate in the International Conference of Undergraduate Research – URECA (ICUR-URECA);
  • Apply for URECA conference support fund up to $2500 if his/her paper is accepted for presentation in a reputable conference;
  • Apply for URECA journal publication award when he/she is the first author of the published paper in a reputed journal;
  • Upon successful completion of the FYP-URECA programme, student will receive a certificate.
