Research Associate (Game Development)

About MAGIC

Multi-plAtform Game Innovation Centre (MAGIC) is having an opening for Research Associate to work on serious game projects on social studies. The developer will work with researchers from MAGIC and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information.

MAGIC was established in the Nanyang Technological University with support from the Singapore National Research Foundation. MAGIC investigates games technology and related research, and translate scientific ideas into technological products and services for the Studios of the Future in the media and entertainment industry. With innovative technologies in games, animation and film, MAGIC helps to increase the capability of creative studios by lowering production costs, shortening time to market and empowering cross-border execution.

Responsibilities

  • To design and implement the UI and game mechanics  that are in line with the research purpose
  • To design and implement the back-end platform, including the simulation code and data storage
  • To design and implement an analytic tool to analyze the players' gaming behaviors
  • To work with the team of social scientists in terms of data retrieval and analysis
  • To collaborate with other teams at MAGIC in using internally developed technologies
  • To participate in the research centre's publicity activities
  • To assist research duties, e.g. writing papers
  • To perform administrative duties, e.g. writing quarterly and annual reports

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science from reputable universities
  • Interest and experience in front-end and back-end technologies in game development
  • Familiarity with Unity game engine
  • Familiarity with C# and PHP programming languages
  • Familiarity with database technologies (RDBMS/NoSQL)
  • Familiarity with software documentation technologies (e.g. Doxygen)
  • Familiarity with game networking concepts will be a plus
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently
  • Professional experience in the game industry will be a plus
  • Professional qualifications (e.g. Unity certified developer) will be a plus
