Research Fellow (Microgrids)

Established in 1981, the SCHOOL OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING (EEE) is one of the founding Schools of the Nanyang Technological University. Built on a culture of excellence, the School is renowned for its high academic standards and strong tradition in research. To support teaching and cutting-edge research, EEE is host to 11 research centres and more than 50 laboratories, which are well-equipped with modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment. With about 130 faculty members and an enrolment of more than 4,000, of which about 1,300 are graduate students, it is one of the largest EEE schools in the world.


We invite applications from outstanding and enthusiastic researchers for Research Fellow positions focused on control and management of power systems and power electronic devices. Candidates should have experience with hardware and software development to integrate load control modules, renewable energy resources and energy storage systems under various operating conditions in a microgrid. 

 
Specifically we are looking for expertise in the design, implementation and validation of demand 
response management, power electronic converters, control algorithms for the hybrid energy storage and power quality conditioning systems to improve their dynamic performance for various grid applications as well as processing of sky imaging due to cloud motion for irradiance and PV forecasts. Candidates should be passionate about working on cutting edge research leading to high impact products and services.

 
Other research activities may include participating in research discussion with local industries and partners, overseas universities and research centers and writing reports as required by Economic Development Board (EDB) and National Research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore. Candidates with strong background in power systems, power electronics and electrical drives and those with experience in power electronics hardware prototype setup and/or software programming are preferred.

 
Requirements:

PhD degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Computer Engineering
Expert knowledge in power electronics and power systems
Hardware experience necessary
Experience with energy storage systems, renewable energy resources, electric vehicles,
        power electronic converters, processing of sky imaging and/or RTDS/OPAL-RT is highly              
        ​recommended
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Strong analytical and conceptual abilities
Able to work independently and in a team to realize the proposed works
Able to publish conference/journal papers and commit 1 year of your time in the project.
