RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Senior Technical Artist)
The School of Art, Design and Media is seeking a Technical Artist to aid in the research and develop of art techniques to support an advanced real-time 3D animation narrative simulator. Work with a team of artists and engineers on a National Research Foundation funded co-space project.
Responsibilities:
· Develop a general character framework for Maya, working in conjunction with the project leaders and the programming team, including skeletal and facial systems and workflows
· Work with programmers to develop tools/scripts/plug-ins to streamline the creation process
· Create technically sound art and character frameworks
· Rig characters for both motion capture and key-frame animation and simulation
· Coordinate motion capture sessions, clean data and hand animate characters
· Work with team of artists (including students) in setting schedules and milestones
· Research existing and emerging techniques in the field of real-time simulation
Qualifications:
· MFA or BFA from an accredited art college or university
· 3+ years or more of production experience with CG characters/Technical Animation
· Strong understanding of 3D graphics
· Strong understanding of contemporary techniques used in real-time simulation
· Expert knowledge of Maya
· Expert knowledge of Animation principles and Kinematics
Desirable Qualifications:
· Game development experience on one shipped title
· Strong knowledge of Motion-Builder preferred
· Working knowledge of Vicon Blade
