RESEARCH ASSISTANTS (CONTRACT)
Description:
The Nanyang Business School - Strategy, Management & Organization Division is seeking three research assistants (approximately 20-30 hours/week) to help code archival data from news of U.S. public firms. The project starts immediately this May and will continue for about 3-4 months. Training will be provided. Applicants must have their own laptop. Pay rate: S$7~9/hr.
Primary responsibilities

• Code data of firm top executives and board of directors.

• Data are available from public websites, but an internet connection is needed. Some judgment on the data may be required.

• Report progress on a weekly basis

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in English is required.

• Very organized, attention to details, and ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision on assigned tasks.

• Basic familiarity with finance and accounting is preferred. For example, basic familiarity with firm’s annual reports, and financial statements. A major, degree, or some background in business might be helpful but not required.

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.

• All the news is already downloaded and ready to be coded in Excel. Some judgment on data will be required.

• Proficiency in English is required.

• A major in business is preferred but not required.
 
• Very organized, attention to details, and ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision on assigned tasks.

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel helps.

Programmer/ Research Associate

The Nanyang Business School is seeking 1 qualified, full-time individual for the position of Programmer cum Research Associate for the Information Management Research Centre (IMARC) to help in a series of research projects.

Job Responsibilities:
 
Collect, clean, format, and prepare research data
 Design web site and generate web surveys
 Scan and synthesize scholarly and academic research articles

Requirements:
 
Bachelor‘s Degree from a good university, preferably from Computer Science or Engineering
 Ability to parse text from unstructured plain text files into a database system using languages such as Perl or Python
 Ability to manipulate and combine flat data files using scripting languages
 A strong command of scripting language, preferably Perl script
 Ability to do web development using PHP or MySQL or ASP.NET for survey-like data collection
 Eager to learn and able to work independently in an unstructured environment

The commencing salary for the above posts will commensurate with candidates’ qualifications and experience.  The appointment for the research associates will be on a contract basis ranging from 1 to 2 years. Please note that teaching duties will not be assigned to the Research Associate.

Nanyang Business School, Center for Leadership and Cultural Intelligence
Project Officer

The Project Officer will be part of a dynamic team of researchers conducting research on Leadership and Cultural Intelligence. You will be responsible for

(1)           managing our survey system, including set-up and administration of surveys,

(2)           processing survey feedback reports,

(3)           collating survey data and managing the database, and

(4)           supporting other research-related activities, such as data analysis and literature search.

Requirements:

  • Minimally, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Social Sciences (e.g. Psychology), with working experience.
  • Good computing skills, especially in the use of generic IT-related applications such as Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel macros)  and other application software.
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous and able to work independently under time pressure.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to manage multiple tasks successfully
  • Proficiency in the use of statistical packages such as SPSS will be an advantage.
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Has a good command of written and spoken English.

PROJECT OFFICER

The Project Officer will assist a Marketing Professor in carrying out a research project on Web design and online consumer behavior.  The job is a full-time position lasting for one year and commencing around May or June 2010.  The officer will be responsible for developing and experimental Web site, running and experiment, coding data and extracting data from Excel files.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor degree in computer science or a polytechnic diploma in Information Technology, Business Information Technology or the like
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Development Environment
  • Knowledge of developing applications, web-services and reusable components using Microsoft ASP.Net with C#
  • Knowledge of Java and/or Tomcat

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Description:
The Nanyang Business School - Strategy, Management & Organization Division is looking for a full time research assistant to help collect archival data for research on Singapore IPO firm performance.  The project will commence around the start of April and will continue for about 2 to 3 months.

Primary Responsibilities:
-  Collect, codify, and input data on all Singaporean listed firms with regard to management composition, product
   innovation, firm performance, and trading information.  The information to be collected will be mainly from the Singapore
   Stock Exchange and Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (both on-site and through their respective websites).
-  Develop, compute, and report indices for certain firm performance measures
-  Report progress on a weekly basis

Qualifications:
-  Bachelor's degree (preferably in finance are related area) with ability to understand company annual reports
-  Self-starter with an ability to work independently on assigned research tasks to ensure timely completion
-  Strong attention to organization & details with the dexterity to multi-task
-  Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Excel as well as Internet applications)
-  Knowledge on (or interest in) corporate governance and IPO firm performance are a plus
