The Intelligent Systems Centre (IntelliSys) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is working on various R&D issues in sensor networks and cyber-physical systems in order to develop impactful applications for large-scale deployment in Singapore.

We have developed and deployed several large-scale sensor networks such as the National Weather Sensor Grid, the WaterWiSe@SG, etc in Singapore.

Building upon our experience and expertise, We are embarking on ambitious projects to develop and deploy unified city-scale sensor networks and cyber-physical infrastructures for urban sustainability and smart cities applications such as environmental monitoring, water infrastructure monitoring, intelligent transportation, smart buildings, smart grids, etc.

We are recruiting a Program Manager to help manage various research projects at IntelliSys.

Responsibilities
• 
Manage various R&D projects at IntelliSys.
• Perform intellectual property management and knowledge management at IntelliSys.
• Facilitate technology transfer from IntelliSys to the industry.
• Communicate with external funding agencies, partners, collaborators and potential customers.
• Help to secure external fundings and new projects.
Requirements
• A PhD or Masters in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields. An Engineering Management, Management of Technology or MBA qualification is an advantage.
• Substantial expertise in one or more of the following areas : sensor networks, cyber-physical systems, embedded systems, participatory sensing and mobile computing, sensor data management, e-Science cyberinfrastructure, service-oriented architecture, semantic web, ontology design, cloud computing.
• Good software development skills in C/C++, Java, etc.
• Substantial experience in R&D project management.
• Excellent analytical, technical and problem solving skills.
Desirable Attributes
• Experience in writing grant proposals and securing competitive research grants.
• Experience in filing patent and other intellectual property applications.
• Innovative, resourceful, and self-motivated.

Research Position
Smart e-Science Cyberinfrastructure for Urban Sustainability and Smart Cities

Responsibilities

• Design and develop a scalable framework for the management of real-time sensor data.
• Design and develop semantic web and ontology design techniques.
• Design and develop middleware services for data management in a cloud computing environment.

Requirements

Research Engineer Position
Sensor Network Virtualization


The Intelligent Systems Centre (IntelliSys) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is working on various R&D issues in sensor networks and cyber-physical systems in order to develop impactful applications for large-scale deployment in Singapore.

We are developing a semantics-based and service-oriented framework for the virtualization of sensor networks, which will enable the seamless interoperability and scalability of heterogeneous sensor node platforms from different commercial vendors.

Our current sensor network virtualization framework supports heterogeneous sensor node platforms (e.g. Memsic MicaZ, iMote2, TelosB, IRIS), operating systems (TinyOS, Contiki) and network protocols (IEEE 802.15.4, 6LoWPAN).

We are inviting applications for the following Research Engineer position.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the sensor network virtualization framework on several existing commercial sensor node platforms.
  • Develop novel prototype sensor network virtualization applications.
  • Perform extensive testing and performance evaluation of the sensor network virtualization framework.
  • Help senior researchers in the team to perform research.

Requirements

  • A Masters in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields. Will consider candidates with good Bachelors (Honors) degree and substantial relevant work experience.

Research Positions in Participatory Sensing and Mobile Computing

The Intelligent Systems Centre (IntelliSys) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is working on various R&D issues in sensor network and cyber-physical systems in order to develop impactful applications for
large-scale deployment in Singapore.

We are working on a new research project in collaboration with the Future Urban Mobility (FM) Interdisciplinary Research Group (IRG) of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) :

Urban mobility planning and management requires a large amount of high-resolution real-time behavioral data, such as the activity schedules of people on a daily and weekly basis, their modes of transports, routes and destinations, etc. Together with socio-economics, land-use, built environment and other contextual information, such data can be used for
large-scale and accurate simulation models to support applications ranging from real-time traffic prediction to future scenario forecasting.

The challenge lies in collecting the relevant behavioral data, using it for real-time control, improved user service and longer-term strategic planning. Conventional data collection efforts usually involve surveys
and questionnaires to be completed by participants. However, these complicated surveys are troublesome and error-prone. Our goal is to develop an activity survey system based on smartphones and web-based surveying tools to infer household and firm activities, including mobility and location choices. In this project, we plan to develop technologies to provide the pervasive distributed smart space infrastructures for large-scale activity monitoring.


For this project, we are inviting applications for the following research
