POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWS IN NUMERICAL MODELLING (TSUNAMI AND STORM SURGE INUNDATION) AND SHALLOW GEOPHYSICS
We are looking to appoint 2 Post-doctoral Fellows in modelling and geophysics to be involved in our project on costal hazards of southeast Asia.
The post-doctoral fellow in geophysics, will ideally hold a PhD in geophysics or a related field and is required to possess knowledge in shallow geophysics (particularly ground penetrating radar (GPR)) or CHIRP sub bottom profiling. The candidate will be expected to examine subsurface stratigraphy and coastal processes in coastal lagoons, dune fields and sink holes to contribute to reconstructing the Holocene infill of a variety of environments and to contribute to a regional analysis. He or she will also be required to participate in a novel GPR based investigation of smuggling operations in Singapore.
Secondly we are looking to appoint a Post-doctoral Fellow, holding a PhD in Oceanography, other Earth or Physical Sciences, Mathematics or Engineering, with an emphasis on hydrodynamics and computational fluid dynamics. The successful candidate will work on the development and application of hydrodynamic numerical models for coastal hazard mitigation and forecasting in 6 different countries around Asia. The focus of the position is the development of an operational in-house system that integrates observed inundation evidence from historical and palaeoevents and generates hind cast numerical simulations of possible storm surge or tsunami generated inundation scenarios that can be used to provide hazard assessments based on the palaeorecord.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore conducts research on eartquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and climate change in Southeast Asia and elsewhere. Aside from its scientific value, our work gives Singapore and other countries in the region the knowledge they need to build societies that are more resilient to these natural hazards.
Established in February 2009, EOS is an autonomous research institute funded by Singapore's National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as part of Singapore's Research Centre of Excellence initiative. Many of our scientists will hold joint faculty appointments in NTU's new Division of Earth Sciences.
Singapore, with a strong economy, stable political situation and highly multicultural society, offers very attractive living and working conditions. English is the official language, and salaries at EOS are internationally competitive.

RESEARCH FELLOW FOR THE ATMOSPHERIC CLIMATE MODELING IN SOUTHEAST ASIA PROJECT
We are looking to appoint a research fellow, ideally holding a PhD in atmospheric science, meteorology or climatology, to be involved in the modeling of present climate in Southeast Asia pertaining to the impacts of ENSO and IOD on Asia. The project will primarily involve atmospheric modeling, through we anticipate that comparison with gridded and satellite data will be necessary.
