Assistant Manager/Manager (Academic/Pastoral)

Responsibilities:

You will assist to formulate and administer surveys, collate and analyze information pertaining to outcome based accreditations, as well as to design and implement a QA enhancement process to document all changes and updates to the various academic programmes. You will also facilitate the implementation of a formal process to consolidate feedbacks from the industries for continuous improvements to the curriculum, liaise with different stakeholders on matters pertaining to SCE’s academic programmes and assist in the mounting of new programmes. This position will also require you to develop and refine formal structure to support the pastoral care of graduate students, assist to mentor/counsel graduate students and to complement the supervisor mentor.

Requirements:

  • Degree from a recognized university, preferably in psychology or related disciplines
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience and candidates with counseling experience will be preferred

Responsibilities:

You will provide counselling, crisis intervention and a support system for the students' personal growth and general well-being. This includes workshops and talks to students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, international students and to University staff who handle student matters.

Requirements:

  • First degree, preferably in Psychology or Social Work, and a postgraduate qualification in Counselling Psychology or Counselling
  • At least 2 years of counselling experience, preferably with youths or tertiary students

Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information

Senior Manager

Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Chair, the candidate will play a key role in matters related to human resources. The position requires the candidate to assist the Chair in the School’s manpower planning and staff recruitment. In addition, the candidate will oversee staff training and development, and coordinate faculty and staff contract renewals, annual appraisal, and promotion and tenure. The candidate will also coordinate the appointment of visiting professors, and oversee the maintenance of staff databases and records.

Besides human resource matters, the candidate will also help to oversee school-related activities of the Wee Kim Wee Legacy Fund and the school’s endowment. This involves working with other managers in the school and the Development Office to coordinate fund-raising activities and monitoring the distribution of funds from the endowment. It will also require, from time to time, meeting existing and potential donors, and preparing regular reports on the endowment and its uses.

The candidate will also be tasked to help with special event planning and execution, and be responsible for other tasks that may be assigned by the Chair of the School.

Requirements:  

  • A Master’s degree and prior office management experience in an academic setting would be an added advantage
  • Computer literate and fluent with office software including database management

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief Human Resource Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the review and formulation of HR policies, initiatives and interventions relating to faculty management.  You will analyse data, reports, trends and make recommendations to the management to achieve the overall HR objectives and goals relating to faculty management. NTU Libraries is seeking a library professional with an interest in scholarly communications and research publishing to undertake a role as librarian (Scholarly Communications) for NTU Libraries. The successful candidate for this new position will be part of a new Scholarly Communication Unit (SCU) which reports to the University Librarian.  SCU is tasked with ensuring that NTU researchers are able to maximize the impact of their publishing and have that impact reflected globally. 

Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will have a strong external focus and will be required to liaise with relevant units and individuals across the University and beyond.  He/She will also be required to work closely with staff in relevant Library Divisions such as the Library Technology Division, the Instructional Services Division and with the Science and Business libraries.

In addition, he/she will provide services as a subject librarian and be involved in collection development, instruction, reference services and management of electronic resources in a specified subject discipline. 

Requirements:

  • A Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science (or an equivalent qualifications)
  • Sound experience in an academic library setting
  • A strong Undergraduate degree in a discipline relevant to NTU teaching and research
  • Possess an interest in and an understanding of the scholarly communications environment

Earth Observatory of Singapore

GPS Analyst

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) has been newly established at Nanyang Technological University to study tectonic, volcanic and climatic processes, three areas of earth science with particular relevance to the future of societies and civilisation.

We are looking for suitable candidate to join our technical team. The EOS Data processing Centre processes GPS data using a cluster computing facility in a Unix / Linux environment. Data processing involves both real-time and  post-processing of GPS and other data  being received from a large number of Permanent GPS stations installed in western Sumatra and in surrounding regions.

Responsibilities:

 

·         Daily download of data from the internet for GPS data-processing activities

·         Routine processing of GPS data, both in real-time and post-processing mode

·         Day to day archival and management of incoming GPS and other data

·         Helping to carry out other routine computer related jobs as and when the need arises

·         Assisting in managing and processing seismic data

 

Requirements:

Earth Science Curriculum Development Specialist (Education & Outreach (E&O) Office)

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) has been newly established at Nanyang Technological University to study tectonic, volcanic and climatic processes, three areas of earth science with particular relevance to the future of societies and civilisation. The Education & Outreach Office of EOS aims to raise awareness and catalyse informed action on natural hazards affecting people in southeast Asia by producing a variety of communication products targeted at policymakers, NGOs, scientists, students, the media,and the public at large. 

The E&O Office is seeking a curriculum development specialist / curriculum developer to design, test and implement a new and challenging earth science curriculum for secondary (middle) schools and junior colleges (high schools) in Singapore.  The successful candidate will work in partnership with science department heads and science teachers in Singapore schools looking to introduce new concepts and approaches – based on a sustainable man-nature paradigm -for teaching earth science in a two-step approach. In the first step, earth science concepts will be introduced into existing science and geography courses. In the second stage, the full earth science curriculum will be introduced as a new major or as independent modules. The position, to be housed in the E & O Office, will report to EOS’ earthquake and volcano science group heads on technical matters. Preference will be given to candidates with curriculum development and teaching experience in earth science.  Experience with natural hazards and environmental science will be a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess existing science and geography curricula and textbooks for secondary and junior college students in Singapore
  • Develop introductory earth science concepts, examples and projects to be integrated into existing science and geography curricula at secondary and junior college levels
  • Co-develop, with science teaching staff in selected schools, a complete curriculum comprising earth science modules which could be taught as individual electives or in combination to form a major subject
  • Incorporate  emerging data from EOS research programs as well as novel teaching and assessment methods which promote inquiry-based learning and understanding of real-world applications and solutions
  • Conduct rigorous in-class room testing of the new modules, materials and teaching methods
  • Conduct  teacher training on the new earth science curriculum as needed

Requirements: 

  • PhD in earth science (preferably in a sub-discipline related to natural hazards or environmental science) with 2-3 years teaching experience an advantage OR Master’s degree in earth sciences with minimum 4-5 years teaching experience at high school level
  • Strong English writing skills and a thorough knowledge of computer-based learning approaches, GIS tools and/or other visualisation techniques
  • Some knowledge of developing lesson plans, class room activities and projects,  and assessment methods desirable
  • Ability to work collegially with EOS scientists and technical experts, as well as  science teaching staff in Singapore schools on content development

Science Writer / Editor

The Education & Outreach Office in the Earth Observatory of Singapore is seeking a skilled writer / editor with experience in translating scientific and technical information into layman’s language for scientific or research organisations.  Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of natural hazards, earth science or environmental science. Some regional travel to research sites will be required. This position will report to the Education & Outreach Director of the EOS. 

Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit inhouse brochures, research updates, press releases and policy briefs that showcase the work of EOS scientists and collaborators 
  • Maintain oversight of EOS website to ensure a regular supply of fresh content such as research updates, hazard alerts and other public awareness stories 
  • Assign and manage feature articles and educational materials contracted to outside contributors and translators when needed
  • Support EOS scientists in preparing high-quality speeches and presentations for media conferences and other events 
  • Manage in house or contract designers and printers for publication of online and print materials

Requirements:

  • Exceptional English writing skills with a minimum of 5-7 years experience as a journalist or science writer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognised university, preferably in journalism, communications or English. Degree in other disciplines acceptable with a minimum of 7 years demonstrable experience as a published journalist or writer
  • Proven ability to interact collegially with a team of international scientists and other technical experts,  and to translate technical content into compelling stories
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with web and print publishing procedures, and Web 2.0 technologies such as RSS feeds, blogs and podcasting 
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills

High Performance Computing (HPC) Initiative  

NTU has set up a state-of-the-art central High Performance Computing (HPC) centre to support the university’s academic and research pursuits.   The centre will initially be equipped with a 2,000 core parallel cluster, a 300 TB of high performance storage system supplemented with an SMP system.  To achieve high throughput, the HPC facility which is accessible to the university’s community over the campus network is implemented on infiniband interconnect. 

System Manager

Responsibilities:

You will work in a challenging environment which offers exposure to some of the latest HPC technologies and resources at NTU’s central HPC facility. You will be a core member of the HPC team managing the HPC systems and network including working with researchers and vendors to deploy exciting HPC services and solutions for the university's research community.

Requirements: 

  • A good honours degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or equivalent 
  • At least 5 years of experience in HPC Environment, preferably with 2 years in Team-Lead role
  • Good knowledge of HPC concept, i.e. cluster architecture, cluster system management, job scheduling, parallel file system, performance benchmarking
  • Experience in HPC Infiniband Interconnect
  • Good knowledge of Linux / UNIX system administration
  • Self-motivated and have keen interest to learn and deploy new or enhanced HPC solutions for the benefit of the researchers
  • Good communication skills and is able to interact with faculty members and researchers
  • Technical skills specialising in commercial or open source HPC solutions and technologies (i.e, GPFS, xCAT, openPBS, LSF, MAUI, SGE etc)
  • SAN and SAN switches configuration and setup

IT Specialist / Senior IT Specialist (System Support Team)

Responsibilities:

You will work with vendors to implement, maintain and manage HPC facility for high availability as well as evaluate, acquire and implement HPC hardware and software to meet the needs of the university community. You will also manage and maintain the HPC facility for optimum utilisation, manage and provide timely system resources utilisation and availability reports. In addition, you will work with the HPC Application Support Team to troubleshoot application problems and tune application performance and conduct system usage training workshops.

Requirements:

  • Recognised Science or Engineering Degree or its equivalent with 3 years of experience (Poly graduates with 5 years’ experience) supporting Linux / Unix systems in a campus / enterprise network environment
  • Fresh graduates with a strong interest in HPC technologies will also be considered

  • Experience in supporting Linux / Unix open source environment
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

Research Engineer / Scientist (Application Support Team)

Responsibilities:

You will play a primary role in promoting HPC facility to NTU’s research community including conducting end-user training workshops and preparation of application software package user guides. You will evaluate, acquire and implement HPC application packages and provide on-going maintenance and support (including liaising with System Support Team and software vendors to troubleshoot and conduct performance tuning). You will also assist faculty members and researchers in the usage of the HPC systems to meet research objectives.

Requirements
