Interlibrary Loan is a service provided by Access Services Division to access publications and books not held by the Library. Through interlibrary co-operation, loans from libraries and organisations, local and abroad, are arranged on behalf of the requester. Most libraries lend only books and conference proceedings. They will not lend journals and audiovisual materials.
This service is available to NTU academic staff, administrative staff, graduate students and final-year students. Loan requests are restricted to materials that are related to work, teaching, research or respective final year project.
Please check the requests against the NTU Library Catalogue before submitting the request form.
Please note that interlibrary loan requests are not reflected in your borrower's record. The Library will inform you of our follow-up action via email.
Policy for Interlibrary Loan
- Borrowers have the option of indicating in their request forms where they prefer to pick up their interlibrary loan items in seven locations: Art, Design and Media Library, Asian Communication Resource Centre, Business Library, Chinese Library, Humanities and Social Sciences Library, Lee Wee Nam Library and Wang Guangwu Library.
- Borrowers are expected to collect the item from the Service Desk of the Library that they have indicated in their request forms within 3 days of notification. After which, an item that is not collected will be promptly returned to the lending library.
- Borrowers are to ensure that the item is returned in the same condition as it was first issued.

- Due to the high demand for this service, request for renewals are not allowed and borrowers are limited to two interlibrary loan items at any one time.
- Loan period of most of the items is 2 weeks.
Charges
- No charges are imposed for local loans, but requesters will be held responsible for any damage, overdue fines or loss of books borrowed on their behalf.
- Overseas loans charges are calculated based on the interlibrary loan fee levied by the lending library and the postal charges incurred.
- The Library will subsidise overseas loans requests for students and staff with no access to research/ teaching materials funds. Academic staff are encouraged to use their research funds to pay for interlibrary loans but may also choose “Charge to Library” if their research fund does not have a budget for this service.
Payment
You may select 1 of the following options when you request for overseas items:
