Reservation of Library Materials

You can reserve library materials online. These are materials with the following status:

  • on loan
  • in-transit
  • on order
  • on hold for someone

For details, please refer to the instructions below.

Reserve (red-spot) materials cannot be reserved.

To reserve the following items which are loaned out, please fill up a reservation form at the Subject Library Service Desk:

  • periodicals/journals
  • titles which are currently being catalogued
  • closed stack items

Reservation limit

You can reserve up to 10 items at any one time.

High demands items with holds

Materials in high demand may have shorter loan periods. For example, items with a hold queue will have a 7 day loan period instead of 28 days if there are 2 persons in the queue. Such items are not renewable.

Reserving materials

To reserve materials online :

1. Go to the Library Catalogue.

2. Search for the required library item.

3. If the title status shows that no copies are currently available, click on the title.

4. You will be brought to a detailed record page. Click Place Hold to place a reservation.

5. Type in your library card number, followed by your PIN and select your pickup point. Then click Place Hold.

Reserving multiple-volume titles

When placing hold for a multiple volume title (books only), you can select which volume that you would like to reserve if it is out on loan. For periodicals with multiple volumes, please complete a reservation form at the Subject Library Service Desk.

Changing the pick-up point

If you had selected a wrong library collection, cancel your hold and place hold again. Once the item is ready for pick-up, you will not be able to change the library location or cancel the hold.

Collecting your reservations

When the item is ready for your collection, you will receive an email notice. The item will be held for you for 6 days from the day that you receive our pick-up notice.

At the Lee Wee Nam library, you would have to collect your hold items from the self-service pick up shelf in the Reserves area.

Position in the reservation queue

Viewing of holds

Login and go to "Review my Account" and click "Holds". You can see your queue number next to the item. Eg. Your position in the holds queue: 1.

Change of position in holds queue

The holds queue position is determined by the date of the hold request. Hold requests placed in items that are on order might have been placed before you initiated your request, hence your holds queue position would be pushed back.
