The Collection

We provide a growing collection of books, journals and online resources relating to Psychology, Sociology, Chinese, English, Linguistics, History, Public Administration, Philosophy and Social Sciences (general). Please note that the Economics collection remains in Library 2 due to lack of space and the convenience of collocating them with the Business collection. Books in the HSS collection have a green dot on their spines.

Services

  1. Reserve collection
Red-spot books (2-hour loan) for HSS courses (except Economics) are shelved in the Reserves area situated beside the counter. To take the red-spot books out of the room, users will need to borrow them at the counter.
  2. Loans
Users can borrow books through the self-service checkout machine. For your convenience, books can be returned at the Quick Return Book Drop in the library (which eliminates the need to queue) or the Book Drop located outside HSS Library (near the Fireman’s Lift). Please note that you may return your books to any library, though it would considerably shorten the turnaround time if you were to return a book to the library where you have borrowed from.
  3. Computing facilities
Four Express PC stations and 16 network PCs are available for users to access e-journals, databases and other electronic resources. Microsoft Office 2007 productivity suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) are also installed in these computers.
  4. Wireless access
Users can also bring in their own notebook PCs to access library electronic resources wirelessly. However, if users prefer to use a LAN cable, they can borrow it at the counter.
  5. Facilities
Photocopying service is provided at the Reserves area. Scanning and Network printing is available at the Common PC area.
  6. Other Services
To meet the diverse needs of users, we offer research assistance, library research workshops, mindmapping courses and other facilities to support group learning and quiet study.
