Instructional Services Division

Aim

To ensure the provision of quality campus-wide library instructional programmes so that students and staff of the University are empowered with the necessary information literacy skills for their study, research, teaching and work; thus enriching and contributing towards their advancement of knowledge and life-long learning.

 

Functions

The functions of the Instructional Services Division are :

  1. Plan and oversee the development of library instructional programmes
    • Implement campus-wide instructional programmes on library and information literacy, literacy, literature review, information retrieval and resources in specific subject areas (information skills)
    • Plan and develop course structures, curricula and outlines for all common (non-subject specific) instructional programmes
    • Plan and coordinate the development of course structures, curricula and outlines of subject specific instructional programmes with subject librarians
    • Collaborate with library promotion division to promote instructional programmes to patrons
    • Develop expertise and contribute to research and professional literature on information literacy and information skills issues

  2. Oversee and manage the provision of staff support to library instructional programmes
    • Provide advice, guidance and training support to subject librarians in their instructional work
    • Update subject librarians on current developments in instructional technology and methodology
    • Recommend procurement of and develop training aids to support instructional programmes

  3. Plan and coordinate conducting of end-user classes
    • Establish and manage feedback channels
    • Conduct non-subject specific instructional programmes with assistance from all librarians
    • Conduct any other instructional programmes as and when necessary

  4. Oversee the development of quality instructional materials
    • Plan and coordinate the development of end-user training materials in print as well as online formats
    • Ensure that all training materials are up-to-date and relevant
    • Oversee quality control of instructional materials produced by all instructors

  5. Oversee the administration of library instructional programmes
    • Liaise with academic divisions and other users on planning of instructional programmes
    • Plan and coordinate instructional work of subject librarians
    • Oversee the coordination of logistical and administrative support for all instructional programmes 
    • Monitor the effectiveness of instructional programmes
    • Evaluate users' feedback on instructional programmes
