Subject librarian responsibilities :

  1. Develop a History and Philosophy print and electronic collection that is relevant to the needs of faculty staff and students. 
     
  2. Provide reference advisory service to users who require assistance with their assignments / research work so that their information needs can be met.
     
  3. Maintain subject rooms on History and Philosophy, and regularly update them with subject-specific information so that users are kept informed of library services and resources related to History and Philosophy and can use them for their assignments / research work.
     
  4. Conduct library awareness and information literacy workshops for users so that they are aware of the range of library services, information sources, and search tools available for their research and information needs.
     
  5. Contribute to the operations of the HSS Library to provide an environment conducive to the learning and research needs of users.
     

Operational Responsibilities :

  1. Handle requests and users’ enquiries on Chinese materials.
     
  2. Work closely with Chinese Librarians on collection development as well as source and maintain effective vendor relations with Chinese booksellers and suppliers, with the aim of having a collection of appropriate Chinese materials to support research and teaching needs.
     
  3. Maintain high fulfilment rate for approved out-of-print titles and non-trade titles by sourcing these titles from non-mainstream suppliers with the objective of having a valuable out-of-print collection of all subjects.
     
  4. To facilitate gifts and exchanges with universities / research institutes / organizations, and manage donations from both public and private donors so as to enrich the Library’s rare / special collections.
       
  5. Assist in the supervision and training of support staff and student assistants.
     

Work Experience :

Prior to joining NTU, Kiak Peng was a librarian with the National Library Board (Public Library Services) for about five years.

As a public librarian, she promoted library services to in-library patrons and non-library users through different channels, networked with schools / organisations, provided advisory services, and helped manage the library collection at the library she was based at. 

Kiak Peng joined NTU Library as an Acquisitions and Humanities (History & Philosophy) Librarian to broaden her repertoire of skills as an information professional.
