Subject librarian responsibilities :  

  1. Conduct workshops for users on the use of Library’s resources (e.g. advanced research seminar, information searching skills workshop, lunch hour training on use of databases) so that users have improved information seeking and usage skills.
     
  2. Promote Biological Sciences resources and services through conducting tours and orientation programmes, co-ordinating the production of promotional materials, postings in Science Library Blog so that users are aware of new library resources and services regularly.
     
  3. Provide advice & guidance on information seeking, literature review and research process so that users are able to resolve their problems in information search and use.
     
  4. Develop and review Biological Sciences collection in all formats (print, AV, electronic) so that collection is systematically developed and maintained to meet the changing needs of users.
     
  5. Act as the library liaison person for the School of Biological Sciences so that librarian has a clear understanding of users' needs and the level of library's provision to plan for resource provision and library services.
     

Operational Responsibilities :

  1. Coordinate development and implementation of policies and procedures for Library service desks so that users can seek assistance from library staff in using library services at the various branches.
     
  2. Coordinate the development of strategies, plans and implementation of policies related to membership, loan entitlement and other loan related services so that users experience quality circulation services.
     
  3. Coordinate the development, review and dissemination of rules and regulations of library use so as to create a conducive learning environment for users.
     
  4. Strategize, plan and develop new user services so that users are able to access / use Library materials and services with ease.
     
  5. Oversee the inter-library loan / document delivery processes so that users are able to have access to materials not available in the Library quickly and conveniently.
     

Work Experience:

Bee Eng joined the National Library Board (NLB) as a public librarian in 1997. She left NLB to pursue a Master in Information Science at City University, London in 1999. After returning to Singapore, she worked as a circulation librarian at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. In 2007, she joined NTU Library as a circulation services librarian handling library membership, circulation of library materials, interlibrary loans, and users’ enquiries. She is also the subject librarian for the School of Biological Sciences.
