Subject librarian responsibilities :

  1. Develop library collection to ensure that library resources selected for purchase, subscription and access are relevant, timely and valuable in meeting the learning and research needs of staff and students.
     
  2. Provide instruction on literature searching and information skills in subject areas so that all users are competent in basic information searching skills as well as in finding resources in their specific research and interest areas.
     
  3. Provide consultation, reference and advisory services on information searching and resources to satisfy users with help and advice on literature searching and review, reference queries and general information problems.
     
  4. Act as liaison person for Division of Communication Research, and Division of Journalism and Publishing in the WKW School of Communication & Information, so that academic staff and students have strong confidence in the ability of their subject librarian in handling their feedback and meeting their information needs.
     
  5. Coordinator for ACRC Blog to keep users updated on current and major information resources that are relevant to their areas of research and interest.
     
  6. Compile and update the Library/Bibliography section of Journalism.sg - a website on media and journalism issues in Asia, created by Dr Cherian George, acting Head of Journalism Division to develop a useful guide for researchers working in this subject.
      

Operational Responsibilities :

  1. Manage document delivery and interlibrary loan services to obtain materials not available in the library for users in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
     
  2. Provide reference and research assistance to students and staff, as well as co-ordination and training of reference work duties for professional staff, so that users are satisfied with the way their queries (in person, by phone or by correspondence) are handled at the Reference desk.
     

Work Experience :

Peishan’s library work experience started with her volunteering for the British Association for Adoption & Fostering library when she lived in London. She also worked as a library assistant with Clyde & Co law firm and after completing her Masters in Information Services Management from London Metropolitan University, she returned to Singapore where she has been working as a Senior Librarian for Nanyang Technological University Library since 2007.
