Subject librarian responsibilities :
- Develop library collection and subject resources to support learning needs and increase quality research output.
- Develop and conduct information literacy training and subject tutorials to help students become proficient information seekers and users.
- Provide consultation, reference and advisory services on information searching and resources.
- Act as library liaison person to the School of Art, Design and Media.
Operational Responsibilities :
- Plan and strategise the development of Art, Design and Media Library.
- Oversee and manage the operations of Art, Design and Media Library.
- Provide consultation and advisory services on the management of the Library Management System (LMS - SIRSI Symphony) and integration third party-products ( 3mSelf-checks, Directors stations, WebOPAC ).
- Manage and administer the Library Teamsite for staff collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Provide consultation and advisory services for Library IT infrastructure, and IT and AV equipment.
Work Experience:
Bahar started his career as System Analyst at CITS, NTU from 1990-1994. Bahar was greatly involved in User Access and training to Library and Information Services. He managed the client-servers, dial-up services, CDROM servers, IT support and information services.
Between 1994 and 2004, Bahar became an entrepreneur, running an IT Training and consultancy business. The company was involved in National IT Literacy Programme and community projects in “Bridging the digital divide” from 1997-2003. During this period, he was also a certified Real estate and Investment practising professional, and a Project Consultant for SMEs on IT implementation and new business setup.
Bahar rejoined NTU Libraries in 2005 as Senior Librarian in the Library Technology and Systems Division. He was the Library Administrator for the Library Management System, supervising the Library IT, AV and network support team, and Library Teamsite administrator.
In 2008 Bahar was promoted to Assistant Director, and in 2009 he became the Head of Art, Design and Media Library and assumed concurrent role as Media Librarian. He is still part of the Library Technology and Systems team as consultant and advisor to the Library Management System.
In 2010, Bahar attained his Advanced Certificate in Training and Administration (ACTA) under the Workskills Qualification System (WSQ) by Workforce Development Authority (WDA). He is one of the developer, trainer and Assessor for the LAS WSQ programmes under the Library and Information Services.
