Subject librarian responsibilities :

  1. Provide advice & guidance on information seeking, literature review and research process so that users can learn and improve their information literacy and seeking skills.
     
  2. Answer reference queries so that users are able to resolve their problems in information search and use.
     
  3. Collect and compile lists of resources for subject area so that users have access to relevant information quickly and easily without the need to spend time and effort to identify resources.
     
  4. Select relevant books and AV materials according to subject profile and collection development plan so that users have available relevant and critical resources to support their research & learning activities.
     
  5. Guide users on use of database resources so that users are able to use information resources more proficiently.
     
  6. Conduct tours & orientation of library to academic staff, graduate students and other users so that they are more aware of library services and resources and form good relationship with subject librarian.
     
  7. Conduct subject literature tutorials for users so that they can improve their information seeking and usage skills for resources in their subject areas.
     

Operational Responsibilities :

  1. Coordinate with various parties to carry out renovation works so that improvements are constantly made on facilities and spaces to provide users with a conducive work and study environment.
     
  2. Develop and maintain the contents in the Library building updates website so that users are informed of the latest news relating to the renovation and facilities of the libraries.
     

Work Experience :

Alan joined the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Library as a Library Officer in 2005, managing the library facilities, maintenance of the Library Management system and taking care of Library circulation matters. Alan joined the NTU Library in 2007 as a Facilities Planning Librarian, working on upgrading and providing new facilities in the various libraries for the NTU’s community. Alan also became a Business Librarian, working on providing Business related information and resources to the NTU’s community and promoting the use of the Business Library.
