Not understanding Chinese did not stop Jeremy (L), an exchange student from the University of Calgary, and Vineet (R), an Indian pursuing a masters degree in Knowledge Management at the Wee Kim Wee SCI, from picking up xiangqi in just one afternoon. |
Though new to xiangqi, New Yorker Graham, and Singaporean Pratheepan took on seasoned players. |
The ISC Coffee Session on 18 February 2009 was devoted to chess enthusiasts, particularly those interested in picking up Chinese chess or xiangqi. The event drew a number of students who had no difficulty picking up the game despite not understanding a word of Chinese.
ISC Coffee Sessions are informal social gatherings held weekly by the International Student Centre to promote social interaction on campus. The sessions are open to all students at NTU.
