Training Employment Pass (non-graduating students/ students on training attachment, internship, research) 

Non-graduating students or those who are not matriculated as NTU students are required to apply for the Training Employment Pass (TEP) before commencing their training attachment, internship or research with NTU. ISC will assist these students in applying for the TEP through the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

Eligibility

To be eligible for the TEP, international students (undergraduates or graduate students) must:

  • have been accepted for an attachment at NTU
  • earn a fixed monthly salary of more than $2,500
  • and/ or hold acceptable tertiary/ professional qualifications

For undergraduates, the training attachment must be part of a degree programme offered by an acceptable educational institution.

International students who are between 17 and 30 years of age and studying in Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, the United States, or the United Kingdom, can alternatively consider applying for the Work Holiday Programme. 


How to apply for the TEP

Submit the following documents to your school coordinator and then to ISC for further processing:

  • TEP application form
  • copies of educational certificates
  • history of employment
  • a passport-sized colour photograph*
  • a photocopy of the bio-data page of your passport

*The photograph must:

  • be taken within the last three months
  • be taken against a white background with a matt or semi-matt finish
  • show the full face and be taken without headgear (headgear worn in accordance with religious or racial customs is acceptable but must not hide facial features)

It takes five to six weeks for your application to be processed. Once approved, you will receive an In-Principal Approval (IPA) letter that is valid for six months with a pre-approved Entry Visa (if required) at your home address. Upon arrival in Singapore, please present the following documents for immigration clearance:

  • IPA letter from MOM
  • letter of offer of admission
  • a valid passport

Collecting the TEP
After registering with the University, present the following documents at the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to collect your TEP:

  • IPA letter from MOM
  • travel document/ a valid passport (with at least two blank pages)
  • immigration white card (IMM 27)
  • completed medical examination form (you are required to undergo a medical examination if your IPA letter is marked with the letters “H” or “T”)

Submission times:
Weekdays : 8am to 4pm
Saturdays : 8am to 12pm
Closed on Sundays and public holidays

You may collect your TEP on the same day if your documents were submitted before 3pm on weekdays or before 11am on Saturday. It takes about 3 hours to process each collection.


Extending the TEP

Students may apply for a validity period of up to 12 months for their TEP. As MOM does not presently allow extensions, students required to stay beyond their validity period should submit a new TEP application through ISC at least five weeks before their current TEP expires. To support your application, submit a letter from your supervisor stating the need for an extension. The discretion to grant such extensions lies solely with MOM.


Cancelling the TEP

You are required to surrender your TEP for cancellation at the Work Pass Division of the MOM when you complete or terminate your studies. Bring these documents along:

  • a letter from your school stating the last day of service
  • travel document/ a valid passport
  • completed immigration white card (IMM 27)
  • embarkation/ disembarkation card
