Prof Ho is the Director  Emeritus of the Needham Research Institute at Cambridge.  He will be visiting NTU for discussion on the organisation of the International Conference on History of East Asian Science, Technology and Medicine in Singapore, and also a preliminary workshop.

In relation to the visit by Prof Ho, IAS will be setting up a Centre for History of Science that deals with Chinese and East Asian Science, Islamic and Indian Science.
Prof Ho, Senior Fellow of IAS, will act as the link for collaboration with Needham Research Institute at Cambridge, a renowned centre for the History of East Asian Science, Technology and Medicine.  Other distinguished scholars in the field like Prof Chen Ning Yang, Prof Kerson Huang and Prof Chang Lay Nam will also be involved.  Potential collaborations with Brunei and Indian agencies will be sought with the cooperation of the History and Philosophy of Science department and Faculty of Oriental Studies at Cambridge.  The centre on non-western traditional sciences will aim to put Singapore in a unique position as a centre for history of science.
