Number of students
Like in the usual Les Houches Summer School sessions conducted annually in Les Houches, this special session in Singapore will target advanced students and young postdoctoral researchers, particularly from the Asian countries, so that they can sharpen their knowledge or start a new field.
We wish to welcome 60 students.
Accommodation will be provided in the air-conditioned hotels at the university and food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided for all participants.
The courses will be held in the premises of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) of Nanyang Technological University (http://www.ntu.edu.sg/ias/Pages/default.aspx). On week-ends some lab visits, seminars, or tutorials may be organized.
Level of the school
The school will target students at the graduate level and PhDs. However, all applicants should have a solid knowledge of basic quantum mechanics.
School Fees
Thanks to financial support by various funding agencies, the school fees (which include housing, meals and the lectures book) are 1200 SGD per participant. A few additional grants (travel and waiver of registration fees) will be available. Due to limited funding, financial support will be awarded to the selected students on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Registration deadline and admission procedure
Registration will close on 06 February 2009.
Selection will be completed by the beginning of March 2009 based on an academic excellence of the applicants. The selected participants will be notified of our decision immediately and they will be requested to confirm their participation within the next two weeks.
After acceptance, they will be issued with an invitation letter (for visa applications) so that they can arrange their travel plans as soon as possible.

This duly completed application form (accompanied by an explanatory letter concerning possible financial difficulties and need for a grant) must have reached the school by *06 February 2009 in order to be considered by the selection committee. The two letters of recommendation and a passport-size photograph should reach the school by the same deadline.
