The Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) was formed on August 8, 1967. ASEAN celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Although the original aim for the formation of ASEAN revolved around the need for economic growth, social progress and social cultural evolution, the region has steadily become visible for its scientific activities in recent years. This inaugural meeting will be used as a platform for the formation of closer collaborations among ASEAN countries for scientific activities, and more specifically for stronger ties in Physics and Physics Education in the region. This meeting will hopefully lead to the establishment of a Federation of ASEAN Physical Societies. We hope that this Federation will enhance and promote Physics activities in the region.
