I graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Honors) in Psychology from The National University of Singapore and a Master of Communication Studies from Nanyang Technological University. Thereafter, I left Singapore to pursue my Doctor of Philosophy degree in School Psychology (specializing in Clinical Child Psychology) at Texas A&M University, USA. The School Psychology program at Texas A&M University is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Houston Independent School District, Texas USA. Internship rotations included Harris County Juvenile Detention Center (Child Forensics Unit), alternative schools for at-risk youth, and various elementary, middle and high schools. Clients included students, parents, teachers, school administrators, and other community service agencies and providers.
After receiving my PhD, I returned to Singapore and worked at the National Institute of Education (NIE) where I taught mostly counseling courses at the preservice, inservice and Master’s levels. I am currently an Associate Professor with the Division of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. I am a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (#31898) in the USA and a Registered Psychologist (#02050012) in Singapore. My research and professional interests include developmental child psychopathology, parent-child relationships, and interventions with aggressive children and adolescents. I continue to participate actively in various voluntary welfare organizations and ministries in Singapore especially involving issues concerning children, adolescents and families at-risk. |
