Program
Microwave and millimeter-wave MEMS for automatic identification
and tracking (1999-2003):
Role in project: Principal Investigator
• A prototype
2.45 GHz active back scattering tag, reader and software; tag
range of up to 20 meters.
• Design, implementation and testing of many different
types of antennas operating at 2.45 GHz, 5.8 GHz and 24 GHz.
Micro-machined versions of some of these antennas (with cavity)
were also designed and fabricated. A slot fed patch micro-machined
antenna at 24 GHz on Silicon wafer exhibited 7dBi gain and 6%
bandwidth.
• Design, implementation and testing of many different
types of filters operating at 2.45 GHz, 5.8 GHz and 24 GHz.
24 GHz filter using micromachined transmission lines were designed
and fabricated on both GaAs and HR Silicon; simulated passband
insertion loss of the filter was 2 dB.
• Design and fabrication of shunt capacitive RF MEMS switch
and multi-band antenna.
