Choong Lab

In the body, the cells are the “tissue engineers” and the native extracellular matrix (ECM) is the natural scaffold that functions as attachment sites for the cells.  Taking inspiration from the body’s own tissues, our group integrates knowledge and techniques from materials science/engineering with developmental biology to demystify the process of tissue morphogenesis and microenvironment of the native tissue.

The focus of our activities is to develop tools and strategies for applications in tissue engineering and to recreate the microenvironment of the native tissue. By working closely with collaborators in industry and clinician scientists, the goal is ensure that the research activities of the group are of commercial and clinical relevance.
