Our group is a key part of the SERI TCR programme, which is worth $24MM. We contribute all the drug delivery technologies in this programme, including implants, injectables and drainage devices. In addition, we are also part of Dr. Tina Wong’s Clinician Scientist Award (CSA) on siRNA delivery for minimizing scar tissue formation, which is worth about $1.5MM over 3 years.

Ocular Therapeutic Engineering Centre (OTEC) was set up at NTU to further advance this research collaboration.

We also collaborate with A/P Tay Kiang Hong of SGH (above), an interventional radiologist, on a project titled “Biodegradable Shape Memory Plug for Temporary Endovascular Embolization in Interventional Radiology”.


We are working on a fully biodegradable vesico-urethral connector with A/P Chia Sing Joo (above), Senior Consultant Urologist of the Urology Department in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), supported by an NTU-NHG grant.


We are working on tailored drug delivery platforms for reducing ureteral fibrosis and strictures with Dr. Chong Tsung Wen (above), a Senior Consultant based at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Department of Urology. He specialises in endoscopic treatment and manages ureteric stones, injuries and strictures on a regular basis.


Another collaboration is with Dr. Lynne Lim (above), on fully-degradable tracheal stents and ventilation tubes for ear infections.

Our group is also involved with Dr. Shin Chuen Cheng of TTSH, in the area of drug-eluting balloons for the peripheral vasculature.


World-wide


Our collaboration with Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota, USA) continues with Ng Xu Wen who did an attachment there. She learnt techniques relating to in vitro cell effects of a novel peptide compound, CDNP, that is used for cardiovascular disease management.

We are also working on novel peptide eluting medical implants with Dr. Horng H. Chen (left), Professor and Consultant Cardiologist at Mayo Clinic.

We also continue our association with Prof Lenny Rome at UCLA and also of the California Nanosystems Institute (CNSI) on vault particles. Another NTU colleague, Prof Sierin Lim of SCBE, is now working with us on derivatizing vault particles.

Prof Joachim Kohn of Rutgers University, a well-known leader in biopolymers, hosted Liow Sing Shy for 3 months in the summer. The experience was very helpful for Sing Shy.
