I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Statistics from
The National University of Singapore.
Realizing that computers interested me more, I left for the United States where
I received a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from
the Florida State University. I then obtained my
Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Science from
Texas A&M University. There, my research focused
on building software architectures to support knowledge sharing in digital libraries.
On returning to Singapore, I accepted a position at the Division of Information Studies, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). I am currently an Associate Professor and Associate Chair overseeing graduate studies in the School,
My current research interests are in collaborative information access in mobile and Web environments, information retrieval and mining, evaluation of information systems and services, and the use of information technology in education. My latest project deals with human computation games (HCGs), that is, the use of game design and game mechanics to harness collective human intelligence for task performance. In particular, my work examines technical, individual and social issues of applying HCGs for content sharing activities.
