Several Research Assistant (RA) and Research Fellow (RF) positions are available in the context of a project on "A Creative Environment For Mobile Knowledge Workers" funded by A*Star Science and Engineering Research Council (in tandem with our Polish partners in Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology funded by the Polish Ministry of Science & Higher Education) for Singapore-Poland Science & Technology Co-operation. We nicknamed the project as mTeam. Asst. Prof. Anwitaman Datta is the principal investigator (PI) in NTU Singapore. Prof Sun Chengzheng is Co-PI in Singapore. So the candidates will have (the opportunity) to work extensively with both. Dr. Adam Wierzbicki is leading the Polish counterpart of this project at PJIIT.

About the mTeam project

The project will investigate the full-spectrum of research topics and technologies to enable nomadic collaboration or collaboration on the go, including algorithmic foundations and basic research on Networked Distributed Systems which will support upper layer functionalities and ubiquity independent of device and location, Social Networking to facilitate new collaboration opportunities and finally the collaboration tools themselves to carry out the tasks and manage such collaborations. Responsibilities, Goals & Expectations:

RAs as well as RFs will be responsible for not only the technical work of the project, but also related administrative duty, including coordination with our Polish partners. This may involve occassional traveling also.

The aim is to both produce demonstrable products (software) as well as publish the results in reputed venues.

Thus the candidates need to have strong analytical and technical skills (including Java programming, network programming) as well as good communication skills (particularly oral and written English). Experience with SDKs will be great. To gauge yourself of what may be expected, you may wish to check out Google's Android SDK, which "may" be one of our principal platform for implementing the proof of concepts. Some knowledge of SIP technology will be of additional bonus.   

Qualification:
For RAs: Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science, with interest and some experience in some of the related areas.
For RFs: PhD. in related topics.
For PhD: Students interested in doing a PhD in any of these topics can apply separately through SINGA, by specifically mentioning "Anwitaman Datta" as the desired supervisor. Please get in touch with me for more details on this. However the project itself does not have funding for PhD, and thus will depend on SINGA's decision.

Eligibility:
For RAs Singapore citizens, ASEAN* citizens with Singapore PR, Polish citizens
For RFs: All nationals are eligible with preference to Singapore citizens, ASEAN* citizens with Singapore PR, Polish citizens in case the candidates have equally good CVs.

Starting date: As soon as possible, latest by June 2008.

Salary: Negotiable. Competitive to the Singapore industry standards.

Other issues: The initial contract can be for anywhere between 1 to 3 years, but ideally a minimum commitment of 2 years from the candidates is expected. Relocation charges can't be borne, but note that the salary is negotiable!
