·        Profile / Biography

Dr Lim Chu Sing, Daniel obtained a Bachelor’s degree with Honours and a PhD from Loughborough University

of Technology in 1992 and 1995 respectively. He holds a Specialist Diploma in Microbiology from the

Singapore Polytechnic. He received the National Science & Technology Board (A*STAR) Post-doctoral Fellowship in 1995. In 1999, he joined the Nanyang Technological University as Assistant Professor. He was later appointed Associate Professor from 2003 and received his tenure in 2005. Dr Lim is currently the Director of the Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Engineering Cluster, overseeing three research centers and two specialist laboratories. Dr Lim also holds an adjunct appointment with the A*STAR Singapore Institute of Clinical Sciences, Brenner Centre for Molecular Medicine. Dr Lim holds certificates in Biosafety Management, Good Manufacturing Practices in the Biomedical Industry, Responsible Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and Intellectual Property.

 

Dr Lim’s previous appointments include being Vice-Dean / Associate Chair (Administration) at the School of

Chemical and Biomedical Engineering from 2005 to 2007. During that same time, he was concurrently the Director of the Biomedical Engineering Research Centre (BMERC). During his 2-year stint, he was responsible for revamping the interschool center to more strategic directions, including adding on laboratories in Arthropod-inspired Therapy, Microbiological Targeted Biosensors, Biomolecular Physics, Cellular Chemistry, High Content Screening & Analysis, Pharmaco-genomics and Synthetic Chemical Processing, to the conventional fields of bioengineering. He was appointed Visiting Scientist in BioPhotonics at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Duke University, and Visiting Scientist in Materials and Selective Laser Sintering at DTM Corporation (USA).

 

His research interests include Optical Biosensor Technologies, Bio-Rapid Prototyping and Tooling, Stent

Technologies, Monitoring Mutation in Progress and Combinatory Drug Efficacy Systems for Pharmaceutical Biomolecule Investigations. Dr Lim expertise in Medical Devices has also resulted in a novel respiratory implant for patients with an uncommon genetic disorder. Two of his work has been licensed to two biomedical companies for commercialization. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students in stage-gate for medical devices, surgical assist technologies, biomedical physics, and other aspects of biosafety and bioethics.

 

Dr Lim serves as a Council Member of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore and Chairs the Bioengineering

Technical Committee. He has authored over 110 journal and conference publications, 2 books and 4 book

chapters. Dr Lim has 4 patents pending. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the Singapore Foundation Award for Education. Dr Lim is also active in community service and overseas humanitarian medical aid efforts.
