Situated on a steep hillock and located between 3 existing buildings of the Academic Complex North, namely LT1A, LT1 and Block N2, this project consists of a 7-storey building and a 3-storey car park nearby. The building will house a canteen and other eateries, and administration offices.

The design of the new building was essentially guided by the constraints and opportunities of the site. The building is carefully designed to integrate with the existing terrain and nearby buildings, yet able to achieve a strong identity of its own. Physical linkages are provided in the design to ensure good connectivity with the North Academic Complex. This will make it possible for students and staff to move easily from the North Academic Complex to the new building.
Sun shading devices are incorporated into the design of the facade and the overhanging floors of each level to provide sufficient shade to ensure a comfortable environment within the dining and office spaces.

Expected to be completed before mid 2008, the new canteen and eatery will offer a varied dining experience and a total capacity of 2000 seats to replace the existing 1100-seat Canteen A. There will be popular food chains such as McDonald's, Subway, Sakae Sushi, Old Chang Kee and Canadian Pizza. Along with these anchor tenants, an air-conditioned food court outlet, a western food cafe and an executive cafe will also be joining the eateries chain.

In addition, the new car park block has been designed to cater for 190 car park lots. This will be welcomed by staff and students. |
