Support Our Pioneers (SOP) was first introduced in the year 2014 to empower youth to serve the needs of the elderly through visitations and activities. SOP 2017 aims to sustain the effort to bridge the inter-generational divide and allow youth to engage the elderly regularly to promote active ageing and foster tighter bonds.

Due to the sucess and demand from last year, SOP 2017 is back bigger and better!
Heartware Network is proud to extend its bi-weekly visitations beyond Yishun to reach out to 200 elderly residents in Jurong and they want YOU to be a part of this!

Heartware Network wants you if you:
1. Are aged between 15 and 35 (As of year 2017. i.e. born in the year between 1982 and 2002).
2. Are keen and willing to work closely with elderly.
3. Are able to commit to the programme from January to December 2017.
4. Are willing to lead by example and practise servant leadership.
5. Are able to work with people from different backgrounds and age groups.
6. Are able to work well both independently and in a team.
7. Have integrity, honesty and are trustworthy.
8. Are willing to take up challenges and be strong in the face of difficulties and obstacles.

What are you expected to do?
1. Visit and befriend elderly at their houses.
2. Interact with the elderly.
3. Foster strong and long-lasting relationship.
4. Observe the elderly for signs of dementia or depression.
5. Understand the elderly’s needs and relay them to Heartware Network.
6. Improve the cognitive abilities of the elderly.

1. Volunteers and expected to commit to the whole duration of the project​.
2. The information in this table is accurate as of 6 December 2016. 
3. Volunteers will be up​dated of the dates, time and venue should there be changes. Schedule excludes miscellaneous activities required during planning / execution period.
4. Weekday afternoons are optional alternatives for those who are unable to make it for at least one Saturday of the month.

​What do you get from doing this?
1. Understand and empathise the needs of elderly from disadvantaged background.
2. Develop interpersonal skills by learning how to respond to various scenarios through training session provided.
3. Interact and forge new friendships with elderly and fellow volunteers from various backgrounds.
4. Learn the non-material benefits of serving the community with a “HEART”.
5. Realise that you can make a difference.
6. Contribute a minimum of 30 volunteer hours.​

How do you register?
If you are a NEW volunteer with Heartware Network,
1. Sign up for a Youthbank account (www.youthbank.sg) first and fill up your particulars.

If you are an Experienced volunteer with Heartware Network,
2. Go to Youthbank ​(www.youthbank.sg) and update all your particulars on your Youthbank account.

3. Join the activity “Support Our Pioneers 2017 – Volunteers”.

The staff i/c will contact all shortlisted volunteers within 5 working days to arrange for an interview at Heartware Network office.

4. Results of the interview will be sent out via email.
